Response to 3rd Avenue Landslide
This page provides current information related to the response to the August 25, 2024 landslide affecting the Third Avenue Bypass, Third Avenue, Second Avenue, First Avenue, and White Cliff.

The City of Ketchikan contracted with Landslide Technologies to assess the slide areas and report on the findings.

After an emotional week of recovering from the aftermath of the Third Avenue landslide, Ketchikan – and most specifically, James and William (Bill) Montiver – got some very good news today. Their two dogs Alani and Cassie were rescued today from their home that collapsed in the August 25, 2024 Third Avenue landslide. Join us to recount the rescue and the reunion of the family.

Ketchikan Cares Crisis Line
Ketchikan Cares is available to anyone in the community of Ketchikan and surrounding areas, who may be experiencing mental health or behavioral health difficulties such as depression, anxiety, bullying, abuse, suicidal ideation, and school stress. Crisis clinicians with Behavioral Health Response provide callers with professional support 24/7 and Ketchikan specific interventions, resources, and referrals to local agencies as requested by the caller.
People can call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.
988 serves as a universal entry point so that no matter where you live in the United States (907 area code answered in Fairbanks and other satellite Alaskan locations), you can reach a caring, trained counselor who can help.
988 offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. That could be:
- Thoughts of suicide
- Mental health or substance use crisis
- Emotional Distress
- And other reasons to connect
